Group aims for RSPCA award

August 27 2010

As the current holder of the RSPCA People’s Choice Supermarket title, the Co-operative Group is in the running for the award again.

The Co-operative is among four finalists for the accolade, which is part of the annual RSPCA Good Business Awards, and has been shortlisted because of its commitment to the Freedom Foods standard, higher-welfare poultry, free-range eggs, outdoor-reared beef and strict welfare standards for its own-brand pork.

Finalists — the Group plus Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose — have been chosen by a panel of experts, based on each retailer’s commitment to achieving the highest standards of animal welfare.

• The RSPCA is running the award in conjunction with the Independent and people can vote by visiting www.independent.co.uk/voterspca or texting COOP to 60022. Voting closes on September 10th.
