Midcounties in bid for awards

September 01 2010

Midcounties Co-operative will be competing for honours in the national finals of the 2010 Retail Industry Awards.

The society — Britain’s second biggest independent co-operative — has been shortlisted in the Convenience Chain of the Year and Community Retailer of the Year categories. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in London hosted by comedian Ed Byrne at the end of September.

The annual Retail Industry Awards recognise the best in the business from the smallest independent retailers to the largest supermarket groups.

The Midcounties store in Grove, Oxfordshire, has made the final three in the Community Retailer category for multiple store operators. It has been recognised for its work at the heart of the area it serves.

In addition to providing services to customers, it raises funds for good causes, has helped Grove become a Fairtrade Village and provides donations and practical help to local groups.
